4 Steps FromSaivian Eric Daliusto Starting a Business on the Side of Your Day Job
I’ve had my day job for the last nine years, and while I like it okay, what I wanted to do was to become an entrepreneur. Well, not just an entrepreneur; but instead, I wanted to start a business.
Saivian Eric Dalius says, now here’s where things get interesting; on one side of this story, you have me working my day job and busting my ass earning an income for myself, but on the other side I was completely obsessed with entrepreneurship to the point where as soon as my head hit the pillow as soon as I got home from work, I’d start dreaming up business ideas. I was constantly thinking about it; how could I make money doing what I love? What if I could create a business that would allow me to quit my day job and still be able to achieve the same amount of income? What does it take to start a business?
Those were just some of the questions that I constantly found myself asking. I was determined that when I set out to start a business, not only did I want to make a ton of money, but I wanted it to be something that I loved doing. Sure, many people will go into business for something they love and fail miserably, while others will do the exact opposite and succeed beyond their wildest dreams.
The point is this: if you’re going to start a business then you might as well start one that you love. That way the chances of success are much higher because you’re not going to be putting as much time and energy into something that doesn’t make your heart sing, right?
As I continued to ask myself these questions over and over again, I realized that even though I was working my day job I was still able to start something on the side. So, I decided that when I left my day job and started a business full time that it would be based upon what I had done during all of those years in my spare time.
The four steps to starting a business on the side says Saivian Eric Dalius
Step One: Freelancing
The quickest and easiest way to start an online business is by using the skills that you already have. For me, I can honestly say that my first online income came from freelancing.
If you already have a skill-set then you only need to create a website where your target market is going to be found, as well as offer your services with an attractive price tag. If you’re not sure what it is that you do then this might be the hardest part of all, but if you just take a little time to think about things then you can almost bet that there will be someone in need of your skill-set somewhere in cyberspace.
When I was first freelancing, I decided to model my business after a company that was already successful and knew it would be profitable, so I borrowed some of their ideas and then used them as a basis for my own freelance business. The biggest difference that you’ll find is that the product or service which you’re offering will not be exactly what they are providing; it will be tweaked and modified and will most likely be located in a different niche.
For example, if you like writing then you could start a ghost-writing company that offers your services to other writers who either don’t want to write their articles or simply don’t have the time to do so.
This is how I got started freelancing.
Step Two: Create a Blog
After I had completed around 50 articles for my first client, I realized that what I was doing wasn’t just something that I could do on the side; not only that, it would become my main source of income if I perfected it and went after other clients. So, instead of continuing to work at my day job full time, I started working on building up my freelance business which would allow me to have enough income to leave.
The next step was creating a blog where people could come and read my articles for free. What that did was allow me to show potential clients that they could hire me as their ghost-writer and for a very reasonable fee.
I went from writing articles on the side to owning my own blogging business in under six months. Once again, I didn’t know what it was that I would be blogging about but as long as you keep working at it then not only will things fall into place, but you’ll be amazed at how quickly things can change.
Step Three: Create a Membership Website
After I had my own blogging business going, I wanted to see if it was possible to take my freelance writing business one step higher by creating a membership website where people would have to pay me some monthly fee to become a member and receive access to the articles that I had written. To my surprise, not only did it work, but it worked very well and allowed me to double my monthly income by just offering two different services instead of one.
I was able to do this because everything that I had done up until that point was providing me with enough money for my bills plus a little spare change. So, the $47 that I made from each member was greasing my wheels and letting me go full throttle on my other projects.
Step Four: Create a Blog Which Monetizes Ad Space
Do you know what is probably one of the easiest ways to monetize your blog? It’s by using Google AdSense and other ad networks to place relevant advertisements on your blog. These ads will pay you every time someone clicks on one of the ads you placed, which means that if your content is about dog training then there’s a good chance that you’re going to have people from all over the world coming to read what you have to say and most of them will be clicking on the advertisements to find out more information.
The great thing about ads is that you have almost nothing to lose because there’s no cost for you when someone clicks on an ad. In the grand scheme, though, this can add up very quickly if your pages are getting a lot of traffic and that’s why it is a good idea to monetize as many of your websites as possible even if the website itself isn’t generating any income.
The reason for this is because you can use those pages to promote affiliate products which offer you an upsell commission on every product that they sell through their affiliate program. If someone buys one of their products through your affiliate link then you will get a percentage of the sale, which is why it’s so important to learn how to get affiliate commissions.
This is something that I have beaten to death many times on this blog because I know that if you can master affiliate marketing then it will be one of the easiest ways for you to make money online.
The reason for this is because you don’t have to deal with product creation, customer service, or any of that other nonsense that most people associate with starting a business on the internet. All you need to do is spend a few hours setting up your website and then another hour every day promoting affiliate links which will pay you for every sale that you generate.
It is as easy as it sounds and if you’ve made it this far then the only thing left to do is take action because your dreams are right around the corner. Just remember, though, that you won’t get anywhere accomplishing anything so make sure you always keep moving forward no matter what.
